Job Description

A non-profit research company is seeking a Technician to join their team in Charlotte, North Carolina.    

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of the facilities and grounds - preventive, routine and corrective day-to-day maintenance
  • Troubleshoot worn, damaged and/or malfunctioning mechanical, electrical, plumbing or structural components
  • Facilities maintenance and proactive repair work
  • Mechanical maintenance and repair work
  • Electrical repairs such as replacing fuses, light fixtures, bulbs, ballasts and switches
  • General plumbing installation and repair work
  • Direct outside vendors and coordinate, oversee and inspect work done by all facilities contractors
  • Interact and communicate verbally and in writing with various groups and individuals
  • Perform all work in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations, specifications, schedules, and standards of quality and safety
  • Maintain the facilities badge access and camera systems
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of equipment and work areas
  • Perform general carpentry work as needed to assist in the construction, repair and renovations of floors, stairways and partitions; Fabricate and install components and casework
  • Assemble furniture, cabinets, shelving, etc.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on equipment and systems
  • Maintain assigned equipment and tools
  • Maintain required maintenance and repair records
  • Exercise care and safety in the use of equipment and tools required to complete assigned tasks
  • Perform services to heating and air conditioning systems and equipment

Qualifications

Required

  • A vocational/technical diploma in one or more of the building trade(s)
  • 2+ years of general building maintenance experience
  • Efficient computer operation and usage (Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel)
  • Able to walk, stand, climb ladders, reach overhead, bend, stoop, and crouch on a regular basis
  • Able to regularly lift and/or move 50 pounds
  • Able to build walls, hang and spackle drywall, repair, prep and paint walls, and install windows, doors blinds, dry erase boards, and cork boards
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Preferred

  • Experience with large scale meeting space management; Includes meeting room set-up and quick changeover as well as operating complex audio/visual systems
  • Knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of a facilities department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the facilities technician
  • Knowledge in the areas of general construction and electrical, mechanical and plumbing repair and maintenance work
  • Knowledge of standard tools, materials and practices of the industry
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the industry
  • Knowledge of the laws, codes, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to specific duties and responsibilities of the position
  • Able to maintain effective relationships with personnel of other departments, professionals and members of the public through contact and cooperation
  • Able to act calmly and quickly in emergency situations
  • Possesses a sense of urgency with strong attention to detail
  • Familiar with adhering to a facilities operating budget
  • Able to work weekends and overtime as needed to maintain the facilities
